San Mateo County Council of Cities Minutes

Chair Sepi Richardson called the meeting to order at 6:49 p.m. A total of 67 people were in attendance.

Roll Call:

Present: Atherton, Brisbane, Burlingame, Colma, Daly City, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Hillsborough, Menlo Park, Millbrae, Pacifica, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo, South San Francisco and Woodside

Absent: Belmont

Announcements:

  • Chair Richardson announced that the following members were elected to represent local cities on various boards and committees:
  • Randy Royce of San Carlos was elected to the Board of Directors seat on the Housing Endowment and Regional Trust Board (HEART) vacated by James Janz of Atherton and will serve through February 28, 2010.
  • Dan Quigg of Millbrae, Carole Groom of San Mateo and Diane Howard of Redwood City were reappointed to the HEART Board of Directors for terms ending February 28, 2012. (Due to Carole Groom’s appointment to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, her seat will be up for reappointment at the January Council of Cities meeting.)
  • Jm Hartnett of Redwood City was reappointed to serve on the San Mateo County Transit District Board of Directors through December 31, 2012.
  • Rosanne Foust of Redwood City was reappointed to serve on the San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board of Directors through December 31, 2010.
  • Rosalie O’Mahony of Burlingame was reappointed to serve on the San Mateo County Transportation Authority Board of Directors through December 31, 2010.
  • Terry Nagel of Burlingame was elected Chair of the Council of Cities for 2009.
  • Christine Krolik of Hillsborough was elected Vice Chair of the Council of Cities for 200

Welcome by Mayor: Colma Mayor Joanne F. del Rosario welcomed the cities and guests to this year’s holiday event and introduced elected officials and staff from Colma.

Secretary-Treasurer Election: A motion was made and seconded to appoint Marge Colapietro of Millbrae as secretary-treasurer of the Council of Cities. The motion carried unanimously.

League of California Cities Representative: A motion was made and seconded to appoint Sepi Richardson as the Council of Cities Liaison to the League of California Cities Peninsula Division. The motion carried unanimously.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes for the meeting of November 21, 2008, were approved.

Treasurer’s Report: None.

Committee Reports: None

Old Business:

Chair Richardson handed out $50 gift certificates from the Council of Cities to representatives from each of the cities that hosted dinners during 2008, with the request that they be delivered to the city clerk of each host city. She also gave one to Ashnita Narayan and thanked her for her service in coordinating the meetings as secretary of the City Selection Committee.

New Business:

Mayor Rosanne Foust of Redwood City invited mayors and council members to participate in the Mayors’ Diversity Celebration Awards at an event to be hosted by Redwood City and the San Mateo County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in May 2009 in Redwood City.

Guest Speaker: There was no guest speaker. Chair Richardson thanked the Colma firefighters for hosting the holiday dinner.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:39 p.m. by Chair Richardson.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held January 30, 2009, in Millbrae.
