San Mateo County Council of Cities Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: Friday, April 24, 2009
Host City: Town of Woodside

Call to Order: Chair Terry Nagel called the SMC Council of Cities meeting to order at 6:35 pm

Roll Call/Introduction of Guests: Secretary/Treasurer Marge Colapietro called the roll
and each senior City Official introduced their guests.

Present: Atherton, Brisbane, Burlingame, Foster City, Hillsborough,
Menlo Park, Millbrae, Pacifica, Portola Valley, San Carlos, San Mateo,
and Woodside.

Absent: Belmont, Colma, Daly City, East Palo Alto, Half Moon Bay,
Redwood City, San Bruno and South San Francisco.

Introductions: Chair Terry Nagel introduced Host City Mayor Peter Mason.

Welcome Mayor of Host City: Mayor Mason welcomed everyone to his Town
and briefly noted and discussed some of the historical building treasurers of Woodside.

Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the March 27, 2009 were unanimously approved.

Board of Supervisors’ Report: No report.

Treasurer’s Report: Secretary/Treasurer Marge Colapietro presented the report for the month of March 2009. She reported a total account balance of $4064.34 and a written report was distributed. Marge also advised everyone about the San Mateo City Employees Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program, and because SMC Council of Cities has an account with the credit union, members are entitled to apply for a scholarship. More information is available through the Credit Union office: 522-7070.

New Business: None


*May 14th: Breakfast meeting, 8:30 am – Employment of Persons with
Disabilities focusing on “Green Collar Jobs” – everyone invited to attend.

*Informational literature was distributed regarding The San Mateo County
City Selection Committee’s opportunity to nominate one or more individuals to
the California Coastal Commission, Central Coast Region seat
Cont’d: Our considerations and vote will be at the May 29th meeting – 6:15 pm – quorum
is required. We have opportunity for position of influence on Commission!

*Letters of Interest in serving on available seats on the SMC Boards must
email their letters directly to Rebecca Romero, Secretary – SMC City Selection
Committee a.s.a.p. for timely distribution to voting members.
*Portola Valley Town Center was selected by the American Institute of Architects
as one of the 10 “most sustainable projects in the world for 2009!

*SMC Council of Cities updated calendar was distributed.

Program: Mayor Mason introduced Henry Gardner, Executive Director – ABAG

Mr. Gardner gave an overview of ABAG, addressed suggestions on how cities can tap regional expertise to create livable communities, discussed the SF Bay
Area Regional Blueprint Plan (FOCUS) which covers: transportation, housing,
priority, planned, potential development areas, PDA opportunities and priority
conservation areas. Mr. Gardner provided a plethora of information and the
audience was enthusiastically appreciative of his participation!

Chair Nagel thanked Mr. Garner for his dynamic presentation.

Next meeting: Friday, May 29, 2009, City of Menlo Park, Reception 6:00 pm
City Selection Meeting 6:15 pm – please arrive on-time!

Adjournment: Chair Nagel adjourned the meeting at 9:28 pm.
